I was speaking with a friend today who was complaining about her small child being unruly. She was simply venting, and I responded to her understandable frustration with "just smack her nose with a rolled up newspaper." She got a laugh out of that(which was what I was going for, it was a joke, I do not actually think children or dogs should be hit with rolled up newspapers), and it started a discussion as to why animals should not be considered humans.

On Valentine's day 48 rabbits were removed from a therapeutic riding facility, due to substandard conditions. The farm themselves asked to have the rabbits removed... And that might not have been the best idea.
Nothing makes me cringe more than seeing someone call their critter a "furbaby". I simply hate the term, and in a perfect world, no one would use it.
Looks like I pissed off the wrong people, so I've decided to out myself and deny them the pleasure.
Recently a group of 39 dogs were removed from two properties in Durham, New York. Initial reports stated these dogs were "skinny and scared", in kennels stacked on top of each other, allowing feces and urine to run down to the dog below, that they had no food nor water.
However, the dogs were seized February 9th, and some are already going to new homes... So, everyone knows that rabbits are the third most commonly euthanized companion animal in shelters, after cats and dogs, right? Well, I've got the perfect solution.
It's all over the news at this point - the stray dogs of Sochi are being rounded up and killed en mass before the Olympic games, and it has all sorts of people up in arms. But I don't think they're thinking this all the way through. I think they're letting their hearts lead the way, and everyone needs to step away from the emotions and think this through in a rational way.
Which one are you? Which do you prefer? Choose carefully, for you might be encouraging something you don't really agree with.
