Now, looking at this initial post, we see that the Original Poster has never seen the dog in question... But knows it is in a cage in the kitchen because that is the only place they've heard the barking coming from.
Most of the comments at this point are pretty standard - you have a concern, you call in someone with the authority to check it out. But notice that A-L-'s 2nd post states that she has called the SPCA and it was investigated, recommendations were given and a timeline to follow. I'm thinking someone has me blocked, because I have no idea where the "legs are broken or not" comment comes from.
I particularly like T HE's post, stating that it might not be what they think, that there may be a reasonable explanation... Her comment is completely ignored.
After this bit, they spend some time stroking each other's egos, sharing pictures of their dogs and trying to outdo each other on who's a better owner. I'll spare you that part.
I'd like to draw attention to a few specific comments in this one. EB's comment, towards the end, states that they feel A-L should report that there's no AC. Seriously?! No AC is now abuse?! Since when?! What about all the children and elderly people who do not have AC??
Another post to check out is PF. This commenter is actually being attacked in another group for breeding dogs with little regard to their health and welfare. Apparently regularly sells sick puppies, as well. I've had misgivings about them for a while now, but have not passed judgement on them, I simply avoid dealing with them.
Also, KR's comment touches me the wrong way. My sister has a lab mix, the noisiest, whiniest, complainingest dog you'll ever meet. I mean, this dog is always making some form of noise, even in her sleep. When she gets excited, she makes a high pitched screaming whine that sounds like someone's beating her to death. And she's LOUD. Her voice carries and can be heard for a long distance. Just because a dog makes noise, does not mean it is being treated poorly. My sister's dog is one of the most spoiled dogs I've ever met, well fed and well cared for. She just happens to sound often like someone's putting the boots to her, even though no one ever has.
It astounds me again and again how hair-trigger these people are. A barking dog leads to threats of breaking and entering, theft and even bodily harm. Mob mentality is scary, and so easy to stir up when it comes to animal issues. It's scary seeing it this close to home, and I worry that we are losing the battle for common sense.
