About Me
Herds not hoards. I noticed this as a tee-shirt logo somewhere in my internet travels and fell in love with it. I feel it is very appropriate, especially as hobby and show breeders are being attacked as animal hoarders for having higher than normal numbers of animals. Often the care the animals receive is not taken into account when this label is put on them - once you are unable to properly house, feed, care for the number of animals you have, you become a hoarder. Everyone has their own personal limit, and you cannot judge someone simply on the number of animals they have compared to your personal limit - if that were the case, then as far as I'm concerned, everyone with more than one dog would be a hoarder.
Things to know about me - I am a breeder, however I do not automatically side with breeders. I believe in animal welfare, not animal rights. I believe that animals should be classified somewhere between possessions and children - they are not inanimate objects, however they are not on the same level as humans. I do not always agree with any one side, I am usually perched on the fence, trying to find a common ground. I believe that if the rabbit industry does not unite, it will be shut down by the ARA's, either through laws that they push through, or because rabbit breeders become intimidated and unwilling to risk continuing on with their passion for the animals.
I live in Ontario, Canada, with one dog, two cats and (currently) 12 breeding rabbits. My numbers are often higher than simply my "breeding rabbit" count, as I *gasp* breed and raise rabbits for pet, show and meat purposes. I believe that rabbits are multi-use animals, and will continue to defend my right to breed them.
