I could probably post a new volume of these every day, and still have more screen shots to use. I want to thank everyone for sending in submissions and keeping their eyes open for posts to use in this series. It's been a great help, both for the posts, and for my sanity. Unfortunately, to find these comments I usually have to venture into "the belly of the beast" as it were, and end up viewing a lot of abuse stories. It's not a pleasant task, but someone's gotta get proof that the majority of ARA's are a few cards short of a deck.

An opinion simply is.
Something that's been bothering me for a while, is the fact that people who hate things, think that everyone else should hate them, and no one should be able to do it. It's a very backwards way of thinking, and it's something that needs to stop. Unfortunately, it seems to be about the sole mantra of the RARA's - "I don't like it, so no one else should, so it should be illegal!!" Depending on the rescue's "adoption" contract, you are usually buying or renting them.
Cue the torches and pitchforks! Better get the lynch mob ready, because I'm about to say stuff that's against those wonderful souls who rescue animals!! So I asked my fellow blogger, the Arrogant Afghan, to write a guest post for me on something that had been bothering me, but I didn't know enough about to actually blog about - Dog registries, specifically the two CKC's. They kindly obliged, and now I have a lovely post about Alphabet Soup(which was also posted on the Arrogant Afghan,) to share with you all.
Now, to successfully write my blog, I spend a few hours a day trolling the internet, saving links that are interesting, that I might want to use for any number of reasons. Half of the time, I don't, the link just molders in my notepad. Today, however, I came across a link that completely horrified me. And the further I looked into things, the more outraged I got. WARNING : This post contains links and images that may be upsetting to some readers. Please proceed at your own risk.
I would say you heard it here first, but I know you didn't. The Flat Creek Border Collie breeder was raided tonight at around 10pm, and all of his remaining dogs were seized.
This might just get me murdered by some people who have guest blogs waiting to go up(one of them I bugged and bugged to get her to write it, and now it's being bumped back at least a day), but this situation infuriates me, not only because it's just so idiotic, but also because it's in my own back yard. I can't even comprehend how some of these people are thinking, or why they are doing what they do. It's a horrible case of Breeder-on-Breeder hatred.
So, day before yesterday I wrote a post concerning how I myself classify various breeders. It wasn't written as a standard, but as my view point. Interestingly, in a group I belong to on FB, a conversation came up regarding the term "bunny mill" and "mill type breeders", and a few individuals were lobbying against use of the term. They said that it is a term used by AR's to entice emotion, and to make laws pass easier. A Puppy Mill Law is much harder to ignore or pick apart than a Breeder Law. Puppy mill(or mill-type breeder, as I prefer), connotes certain images and lack of care standards, it brings up pictures of dogs abused, neglected, underfed, living in feces. The problem is, of course(as I think I've said about a million times) is that the RARAs use this term to describe any breeder.
Now we all need to follow in their footsteps!!
A well written letter from the AKC Chairman that I feel all breeders, of any animal, should read. Now, the long and short of this letter is that responsible dog breeders are being vilified the world over by rescue people, and it is high time for breeders to start standing up for themselves, for their hobbies and for the dogs they produce. The AKC is also planning to back the breeders, and help promote purchasing a dog from a responsible breeder. This is beautiful, and it is exactly why I started my blog. Too many people accept the preconceived notions about animal breeders - we are in it for the money, we don't care about our animals, we only want the prestige of winning at shows. Now, the problem is that some of these statements are true of some breeders. Not all breeders, but it is unavoidable. There are those that will neglect their animals, or only just meet standards to be able to cut corners and turn a profit. The problem comes when ARA's clump all breeders together. All breeders are bad, all breeders are mill type breeder. They attempt to break things down into a black and white issue. Rescues are good, breeders are bad. It's not like that at all, though. There are good and bad breeders, many shades of grey. Not all breeders are bad, not all breeders are mill type breeders, not all breeders are hoarders. I may have more rabbits than you feel a normal person should have, but it's a herd, not a hoard. |
