However, the dogs were seized February 9th, and some are already going to new homes...
I've said it time and again, I am not anti-rescue at all, nor am I pro-breeder. Fellow blogger Arrogant Afghan said it best when they called me "pro Good People". I am very much pro good people, I like rescues to have transparency, I like shelters to do things by the books and respect human rights. I like breeders to respect their animals and treat them as animals, not as "cash cows". I am against bad people who do bad things, regardless of who they are and what they stand for.
Back on topic, though. I don't like this Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA. Not one bit. How can they justify seizing 39 dogs and immediately selling them?? How is that right? If the dogs needed immediate seizure, how are they ready to be sold, "AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION", a mere 24hrs later?? Obviously, the animals weren't in such horrible shape that they were in danger of immediate death. Since news articles state that the owner refused to surrender them, the SPCA obviously spoke with the owner and should have given them a chance to make changes. The owner/breeder still legally owns the dogs, so why, then, did the Columbia-Greene SPCA post this on Facebook??
This news article states that the majority of the dogs were in good condition and will be being sold over the next few days. It also states that there was over 400 applications for the dogs. Four Hundred!! For 39 dogs. How many of those people rejected from taking a GSD from this seizure will buy another shelter animal? 100? 50? 10? 0? And they've only had the animals for 5 days at this point... Have they been desexed? It took 2 weeks for my dog to heal from his neuter, 5 days isn't long enough. Are they selling these dogs intact?
And let's get into another point. This article states that new details have emerged! Some of these dogs don't belong to the woman they were seized from, they were dogs from overseas on breeding lease. Are these dogs being sold anyway? What happens if these dogs(which are reportedly worth thousands of dollars, are top quality lines) are neutered before the ownership issue is cleared up, or sold and then found to have been owned by someone overseas, and only here on breeding lease? Of course, Facebook Jury Members are saying that these people stating the animals are on breeding lease are lying, just trying to get some of the better dogs to put into their own "puppy mills"(because all breeders are mill type breeders, dontcha know).
To me, this whole thing seems fishy. The woman's animals are being sold without her being given a chance to defend herself. They were seized with no requests for changes to be made. The woman is being treated as guilty already, when people are supposed to be Innocent until Proven Guilty.
How awful for this woman. And how awful for these dogs.
